GF :: day 5

this is my gluten-free life

buckwheat crepes

my husband comes from the area in Brittany, France where they make crepes au sarrasin = buckwheat crepes (btw, 'wheat' in buckwheat is a misnomer, there's no wheat in buckwheat flour, buckwheat flour is GF)

you can find recipes for buckwheat crepe batter on the web

to make the crepes we have a crepe maker, bought online from Canada :)

these are salty crepes or dinner crepes (not sweet or dessert crepes), we add toppings such as shredded cheese (comte), deli sliced ham, egg, onion, etc.

bon appetit !

see you tomorrow for day 6 !

lunch

here are some GF laptop lunches i pack for my oldest son, the above photo is a taco lunch, with Tostitos (corn chips), taco meat (ground beef), sliced black olives, taco sauce, GF gingerbread man cookies, & water

canned pear half, black olives, hard boiled egg, sliced hard salami, baby carrots, GF brownie, & water

turkey sandwich with GF bread, puppy chow, string cheese, apple sauce, baby carrots, & V8

as for me, lunch is usually leftovers (from a previous dinner), canned soup, my favorite sandwich on toasted GF bread, or my favorite salad: lettuce, French vinaigrette, chicken (optional), crumbled feta cheese, craisins, & sliced almonds

i often bring this salad minus the chicken in a reusable container to the beach during the summer

what do your GF lunches look like?

see you on Monday for day 5 ! bon week-end !

GF :: day 3

breakfast

for me when i switched to GF, breakfast was the most difficult transition, but it is better now that i have discovered a few things... like all of the GF Chex cereals which can all be bought at the regular grocery store... other items i eat for breakfast:

Carnation chocolate breakfast drink, i sprinkle ground flax seeds on top

cottage cheese with sunflower seeds

French breakfast - chestnut toasts with Bonne Maman strawberry jam

granola made in the crockpot, served with milk or yogurt

what do your GF breakfasts look like?

GF products that i buy

we enjoy eating this cornbread warm with butter - yum ! along with chili or soup for example

this brownie mix i can get at the regular grocery store, Betty Crocker makes other mixes, too

cookies, cookies, & more cookies

i use several different Bob's Red Mill mixes

i couldn't live without my appliances, we've had this bread machine for almost 7 years now. this GF bread mix is very easy to make, into the bread machine i dump 1 2/3 cup soy milk, 1/4 cup canola oil, 1 tsp vinegar, 2 eggs, the mix & the packet of yeast that some with the mix

3 hours & 20 minutes later, the warm good smelling GF bread is all done baking :) after 3 days i slice the remaining amount & put it in the freezer

what GF products do you buy?

see you tomorrow for day 3 !
