kids clothes wk :: day 7

UPDATED TO ADD: please refer to the NOV/DEC/JAN 2012 issue of Altered Couture magazine for my write-up where I shared how I turned this man's white dress shirt into a cute little dress embellished with ruffles; all the tools & materials needed, step-by-step instructions, as well as some helpful tips.
*****
this time i repurposed a man's white dress shirt ($7 at a thrift store) into another sweet little dress ~ pattern from leila & ben

i added 3 ruffles down the front using some white sheer fabric (no raw edges exposed)

buttons in the back

to go with it i sewed a petticoat out of muslin with 3 ruffles on the bottom ~ raw edges everywhere... ideas on how to sew this look: here & here

that completes the kids clothes sewing challenge for me...

see you at the next post !

kids clothes wk :: day 3

this sweet little dress pattern is from leila & ben

i already made C a Granny Smith apple green one for Christmas

but this time i wanted to make her one using a vintage pillowcase with hand embroidered blue birds on a branch of pink cherry blossoms, i also like the crochet lace trim (i got the pillowcase for $12 at a local vintage shop) - using the sz 3 pattern i was able to fit the sleeves at the top of the pillowcase, so no extra fabric was needed & there was very little pillowcase leftover...

it turned out a little on the big side, so she will have to grow into it... i'm also thinking it might look better with a pink ribbon belt - empire waist?

see you for day 4 !

happy sewing !
